“I could barely imagine that the camera of my mobile phone can be such a good means to depict my everyday life and my concerns. I am glad that all of us together can create our stories through photos”, says a young participant from Nagorno-Karabakh during the first meeting of the documentary photography workshop in Peace Dialogue.

Since February Peace Dialogue NGO has been conducting a series of workshops involving young participants from Nagorno-Karabakh who found a temporary or permanent residence in Lori region of Armenia. One of the main directions of the meetings is workshopping documentary photography, with the aim of developing young participants’ photography skills which will help them to create photo stories about their daily routine, hobbies, and challenges, thus bringing into effect their creative ideas.

The second direction of the workshops is dedicated to raising the young participants’ awareness in the field of human rights. Involvement in such trainings will provide the participants with an opportunity to identify and raise human rights-related issues which they encounter in different settings, such as at school, university, or in the workplace.

It is also noteworthy that this initiative, which is supported by Conciliation Resources, will serve as a platform for youth from Nagorno-Karabakh to communicate with their peers and to create an affective circle in their new environment. It will also help them to obtain new acquaintances and integrate in their current place of residence more easily.

The trainings are planned and conducted by:

  • Lusine Poghosyan,
  • Shushanik Isahakyan,
  • Lilit Sargsyan,
  • Lena Barseghyan.
